AHP’s Guarantee

Advantage Home Performance (AHP) guarantees that we can reduce your electric utility bill by a minimum of 25% year-over-year and maintain the same, if not higher, level of comfort. Our guarantee is based on various assumptions that most homes meet to participate in this offer. If our program falls short, and we don’t reduce your annual utility bill by 25%, AHP will pay the difference in projected savings versus actual savings after one year. In other words, if we project a savings of $800 and you only save $500, we’ll pay the difference of $300 for the first year.

This process is not complicated. Utility companies reward homeowners with rate plans that encourage them to use electricity during “off-peak” hours when a kWh of electricity costs half as much. AHP’s auditors and estimators are experts on your utility rate plans and can help select one that best fits your lifestyle.

Our Guarantee program capitalizes on these low off-peak rates. Review your utility’s website or read our in-depth article, Guaranteed Utility Bill Savings, for more information on how these rate plans work.

AHP possesses the licenses, certifications, and mindset to make this happen. We have heating and cooling (HVAC) and insulation contractor licenses. Our auditors and estimators are Building Performance Institute (BPI) certified. We have in-house building science expertise and the commitment to help you save money while improving your comfort.

Advantage Home Performance is an APS, SRP, and TEP Qualified Contractor, which means we can help you get rebates for energy efficiency improvements. We are passionate about this work, assisting people in saving money and improving their comfort.

AHP brings the knowledge and services necessary to offer our unique guarantee program. We perform all HVAC and insulation repairs with our in-house crews, who work to our high standards. We help homeowners take advantage of rebates and get on the right rate plans. AHP is one of the few companies in the state that works in concert with your utility company’s programs to help you save money.

Our Guarantee program assumes the following:

  • You are committed to reducing your utility bills by 25%. We can only help homeowners who genuinely want to save money.
  • Specific utility rate plans lend themselves to greater savings. For example, a fixed rate plan is one in which you pay the same kWh rate 24/7 instead of time-of-use rate plans where you have an “On-Peak” and “Off-Peak ” electrical rates. People on the following plans are great candidates for savings:
    • APS – Fixed Energy Charge Plan, Time-of-Use, EV Overnight Plan
    • SRP – Basic Plan, M-Power
    • TEP – Basic, Time-of-Use
  • Homeowners on the most advantageous rate plans, but don’t understand how they work, are candidates for our program. We see many solar customers who need our help.
  • The minority of homeowners on the right rate plan, who have improved their home’s efficiency, and manage their energy use wisely, are not candidates for our Guarantee program because they are already saving.
  • Your home has original insulation, or your attic insulation is riddled with thermal defects.
  • Your air distribution system (duct system) has not been sealed. It is outside the thermal envelope.
  • Your home does not have solar control strategies for sunstruck windows.
  • You have an electric water heater or pool pump that is not on a timer.
  • You are willing to commit to precooling strategies. Precooling makes the Demand Time-of-Use plan a winner because you will minimize air conditioning runtime.
  • You are motivated to improve the efficiency of your home, assuming it has problems, because the repairs make precooling strategies work.
  • You are willing to make small behavioral changes, such as not running your clothes dryer, dishwasher, or pool pump during on-peak hours.

Conditions that must be met to participate in our program

  • You genuinely want to reduce your utility bill, and you are willing to change how you operate your home appliances. (If saving on your monthly utility bill is not your priority, our Guarantee program will not be a fit for you. We can help you save money, but potentially not at the 25% plus level. In return, you will not be required to embrace precooling strategies and make minor behavioral changes to minimize your demand charge.)
  • You agree to follow your utility’s guidelines to shift most of your load to “off-peak” hours. Your utility app makes it easy to track when you consume electricity. In other words, there is clear accountability. If you are not adhering to your utility rate plan’s savings recommendations, you will be considered in breach of your agreement with Advantage Home Performance.
  • AHP needs to know at the beginning of our working relationship if you are interested in participating in our Guarantee program. A guaranteed project differs significantly from an HVAC system changeout or retrofit insulation job because AHP assumes savings responsibility. For this reason, we won’t enroll homeowners in the program after the work is completed.
  • You will have an assessment/audit by one of our utility-qualified auditors. AHP is a qualified contractor for all three major utilities. All of our auditors have been certified by the Building Performance Institute (BPI).
  • You will address the thermal defects driving your elevated utility bill: missing insulation, duct sealing, solar control. Our auditors will help you apply for rebates to make repairs.
  • You will switch to the proper utility rate plan. Our auditor will provide guidance on what plan will save you the most and explain the plan’s requirements.
  • You agree to meet with your auditor after one billing cycle. We want to discuss your first new utility bill with you and ensure all your questions have been addressed.
  • You will also share access to your utility account, so your auditor can see your hourly kWh consumption during on-peak hours. We have a vested interest in making sure we help you save.

Why trust Advantage Home Performance?

We take genuine satisfaction in helping people improve their homes, understand their utility rate plans, and save money. Our auditors routinely encounter homeowners who overpay $40 to $300 monthly on their electric utility bills.

AHP has an excellent reputation. We have been in business for 27 years and won the Better Business Bureau Torch Award for business ethics in 2019. Mike Uniacke, the owner of Advantage Home Performance, wrote the article in Home Energy Magazine titled, Cheating, the Insulation Industry’s Dirty Secret. He has also been a consumer advocate and energy conservation expert on Dateline NBC.

We will honor any guarantee if our program fails to deliver the results outlined in this agreement. Our Guarantee contract spells out our responsibilities in addition to yours. Your utility sets the ground rules on a Demand Time-of-Use plan, and you must embrace these recommendations to participate in our program.

Advantage Home Performance has a significant upside if we solve your high utility bill problem and reduce your utility by 25%. If we deliver, we will hopefully earn your recommendation. Our goal is to earn both your confidence and referral.

Not interested – no worries

You don’t have to be interested in our guarantee program to benefit from our insights about saving money on your electric utility bill. AHP estimators deliver quotes for HVAC systems, duct improvements, and insulation jobs every week. If a customer on one of these calls is interested, our estimators/auditors gladly share their insights on utility rebates, rate plans, and how to save.

If you are truly motivated, you can log on to your utility website and start saving without our help. Reading the comprehensive article on our website, Guaranteed Utility Bill Savings, will also help you move in the right direction. However, to save 25% or more on your utility bill, you’ll need a company like Advantage Home Performance to help you achieve this goal.
